Defending and Promoting the Common Good!

All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own

culture, experience, involvements and talents. (LS14).

Pope Francis has announced that he is writing a second document on the environment!  His first document, the social encyclical letter called Laudato Si’ On Care for Our Common Home was published in 2015.  In it, Pope Francis, addresses every person living on the planet to be an advocate for an ‘integral ecology’ that safeguards our common home and the most marginalised of our brothers and sisters.

Speaking with a delegation of European Lawyers who signed a declaration in 2022 calling on members of the European Union and Council of Europe to uphold and respect the rule of law, Pope Francis thanked them for “their willingness to work for the development of a normative framework aimed at protecting the environment.”  He stated that key to any effective response and most especially in times of crises, be it social, economic, identity or security, that principles of democracy, freedom and human dignity must be based on truth, divine origin and the ultimate destination of humanity.  Pope Francis’ second document will focus on the recent climate crises.
