Report on Care of Creation Conference – 17 January 2026

Members of the Kilmore Care of Creation Group attended the Care of Creation Conference, ‘Let Justice Flow Like Rivers’, on Saturday 17 January 2026 in the Canal Court Hotel, Newry, County Down.

This event was hosted by the Irish Inter-Church Meeting, the Irish Council of Churches and the Church Leaders.  Motivated by a growing concern for the pollution in our loughs and rivers, theologians, scientists, farmers, clergy and lay people came together to discuss ways in which we can conserve, restore, enhance and maintain healthy systems for both people and nature.

A fantastic line up of guest speakers, in addition to a joyful presence, sacred music, prayer, worship, and shared food, ensured that the body, mind, heart and soul were nourished.

The event was affirming and empowering and demonstrated how collective action to care for our common home is making a difference not only in Ireland and the United Kingdom, but throughout the world.

In the words of Laudato Si’, “As Christians, our vocation is to be protectors of God’s handiwork” (His Creation as Creator of all things) (LS 217). This interconnected relationship between social, environmental, and theistic realms are deeply intertwined and mutually beneficial involving human social structures, ecological systems and theological beliefs.  Environmental sustainability and social justice are deeply influenced by the ethical and moral frameworks that guide human behaviour. This invites us into a deeply entwined social and environmental relationship of stewardship with God, with humanity and with nature
