Fr Patrick J. (Pat) McHugh R.I.P.

1929 – 2026

It is with deep regret that the Diocese of Kilmore announces the death of Fr Patrick (Pat) McHugh R.I.P., Killesher (Fermanagh) and Swanlinbar (Cavan), which occurred on Friday 26 June 2026, peacefully, in the care of the staff of Altnagelvin Area Hospital, Derry.

Born 13 March 1929, son of the late Patrick and Mary Ellen McHugh (nee Bannon), Furnaceland, Swanlinbar, Co. Cavan.

Ordained to the Priesthood for service in the Diocese of Kilmore by the late Bishop Francis J. MacKiernan on Sunday 20 June 1982 in St Mogue’s Church, Bawnboy, Co. Cavan.

Brother of the late Maura, Pauline, Brendan and Seán.

Lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his brothers Ben (Chrissie) and Gabriel (Nancy), his sister Ann, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, Bishop Martin Hayes, Bishop Emeritus Leo O Reilly, fellow priests, former parishioners, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is extended on their sad loss.

Removal from his brother Ben’s residence on Sunday at 6:45p.m. to arrive at Saint Mary’s Church, Swanlinbar at 7:00p.m.

Funeral Mass on Monday at 12 noon with burial afterwards in the family plot in Killaduff cemetery.
