Anniversary Mass – Fr Kevin O’Rourke, Columban Father R.I.P.

An anniversary Mass will be offered in The Conaty Chapel of the Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Cavan on Thursday morning next at 10:00a.m. for the happy repose of the soul of Fr Kevin O’Rourke SSC.

Fr Kevin was a native of Cavan Town and studied in St Patrick’s College before joining the Columbans and being assigned after his ordination to South Korea.

He went on to become a very highly-regarded poet, scholar and translator over there.

He died in Seoul on 23 October 2020 but, due to Covid restrictions at the time, he was afforded a simple funeral which was the norm at that time.

Four years on,  the Irish Ambassador to South Korea is organising the equivalent of a belated Irish wake in Seoul on Thursday evening next at 7:00p.m. local time at which Fr Kevin’s considerable contribution to Korean literary life will be marked. Members of Fr Kevin’s family will attend.

The Ambassador suggested that it would be nice to have an event here in Cavan to coincide with the event in Seoul.

In response to that suggestion, an anniversary Mass will be celebrated in The Conaty Chapel at 10:00a.m. on Thursday which will coincide with the Irish Wake in Seoul.  Fr Liam O’Keeffe SSC – a confrere and contemporary of Fr Kevin’s in South Korea – will be the celebrant of the Mass

The Mass will be live-streamed via The Anglo-Celt for the benefit of those in Seoul and those unable to attend.

All are welcome to attend.
