Canon John Murphy P.E., R.I.P.
It is with deep regret that the Diocese of Kilmore announces the death of the Very Reverend John Canon Murphy, Pastor Emeritus
- Born 7th November 1940, son of James Murphy and Maureen MacHugh, Drumcannon in the parish of Kinawley.
- Educated at St Patrick’s College, Cavan and in St Patrick’s College, Maynooth.
- Ordained to the Priesthood in the Cathedral of St Patrick & St Felim, Cavan, on 19th June 1966 by the late Bishop Austin Quinn and returned to Maynooth to study for the Higher Diploma in Education.
- September 1967 – Appointed to the teaching staff of St Patrick’s College, Cavan.
- 2 August 1986 – Appointed CC Cathedral Parish of Urney and Annageliffe (Cavan).
- 11 August 1990 – Appointed Administrator of the Cathedral Parish of Urney and Annageliffe (Cavan).
- 30 August 1997 – Appointed Parish Priest and Vicar Forane in Killann.
- September 2014 – Retired as PP to take sabbatical leave.
- 1st September 2015 – Appointed CC Kill.
- Retired in 2018.
- Returned to the House of the Father on 16 December 2024.
Funeral arrangements:
Reposing at Lakelands Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Cavan H12 RF78 on Wednesday evening, 18 December 2024, from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Funeral Mass on Thursday 19 December 2024 at 12 noon in St Mogue’s Church, Bawnboy H14 FX65 followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Family flowers only, please, by request.
Hear with favour our prayers, which we humbly offer, O Lord, for the salvation of the soul of Fr John, your servant and priest, that he, who devoted a faithful ministry to your name, may rejoice in the perpetual company of your Saints.
