Holy Week 2023

Holy Week, also known as ‘The Great Week’, is a time to remember the love and sacrifice of Jesus, beginning with his entry into Jerusalem on Palm (Passion) Sunday. Then the Easter Triduum is the highpoint of the Church’s year, beginning with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Thursday evening, celebrating the moment when Jesus gave us the gift of the Eucharist and Priesthood, as well as the teaching and example of humble service. On Friday we celebrate the Passion and Death of Jesus. Then we reach the highpoint of these days, when we celebrate the Resurrection, in the Easter Vigil and the Masses of Easter Sunday. The three days are best seen as a single feast and are celebrated as one liturgy – gift of the Eucharist (Holy Thursday), Christ crucified (Good Friday), Christ buried (Holy Saturday) and Christ risen from the dead (Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday Masses). We pray for God’s blessings during this Holy Week
