Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary Centenary

“Go out to the whole world, proclaim the Good News to all creation” Mark 16:16

The Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary were founded by Bishop Joseph Shanahan, C.S.Sp. in 1924.

The Sisters were welcomed by Bishop Patrick Finnegan of Kilmore Diocese and the people of the parishes of Killeshandra and Kildallan to Drumully House where they lived until 1985.

From their Drumully Motherhouse they went out as missionaries, firstly to Nigeria, then to other countries of Africa, Latin America, Britain and the USA to bring the Good News of Christ’s love and liberation.

To commemorate their founding and arrival, on 7 March 1924, in Killeshandra a Special Mass will be celebrated in St. Brigid’s Church Killeshandra @ 3.00pm on Sunday 10 March 2024. Chief celebrant will be Bishop Martin Hayes, who like Bishop Shanahan, is a Tipperary man by birth.

Liturgical music for the occasion will be provided by St. Brigid’s Church choir, Scoil Bhríde choir and members of the Holy Rosary Sisters. Symbols representing the Sisters will be brought to the altar prior to the beginning of the Mass. Readers of the Word of God, the Prayers of the Faithful and bearers of the Offertory gifts will be by family related members of the Sisters and representatives of Kildallan and Killeshandra parishes. Sr. Franca, Congregational Leader of the Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary, will speak at the end of Mass.

A tree planting ceremony will also follow in the grounds of St. Brigid’s. A tree planting ceremony will take place in Kildallan at a later date.

Everyone is invited to partake of refreshments in Scoil Bhríde where there will be musical entertainment and also the announcement of, and presentation to, the winners of the confined art competition, currently underway in the schools in Kildallan, Killeshandra, Carrigallen and Drumlane parishes.

Everyone is invited to what should be an enjoyable and memorable occasion.
