Synodal Sunday Reflection – 3 September 2023

Bishop Brendan Leahy shares his reflections on Peter’s changing mind and heart in this Sunday’s Gospel. Peter had a very clear idea as to who Jesus was and how he (Jesus) should go forward. But Jesus, the Son of God, guided by the Holy Spirit, helps Peter to understand more deeply Jesus’ identity. Peter is led by Jesus into a behaviour change that would affect the rest of his life. Bishop Brendan reminds us that the synodal process is also about letting our minds be remodelled and our hearts be reshaped as we are guided by the Holy Spirit.

Bishop Brendan is one of the Deputy Chairpersons of the National Steering Committee of the Irish Synodal Pathway and one of the two bishops travelling to Rome this October as a member of the 16th General Assembly of the Synod.
